HAPPENINGS

Just finished my 56th trip around the Sun, WHAT?! HOW? The math doesn’t make sense, but that’s what the driver’s license says. Somehow I’m a middle-aged adult with a wife, kid, pets, and responsibilites galore. In my brain I still feel like a 20 year old immature child.

Anyway, I had a lovely, and peaceful Birthday. Meam and Krug came by early to pick Olive up, and Walker and I sat in bed and watched some Love Is Blind trashy TV and it was glorious. Later we went out to Whiskeycake for dinner and drinks. Olive, Walker, and I devoured some bird and cow, and washed it down with a cocktail, a root-beer in Olive’s case. I opened a couple of presents and cards, and had a lovely time. I would spend every day like that if I could.

CAMERAS

On the images front, I’ve been obsessing for the last couple of weeks over small, compact cameras, specifically the Fuji X100VI and the Leica Q3 and their brethren. I’m telling myself I don’t need them, I don’t of course. But that isn’t doing much to stop the want. I think it started with the announcement of the medium-format Fuji GFX100RF, just a beautiful camera, but I don’t love the fixed f4 lens. If that were an f2 lens, or interchangeable, I’d probably have preordered already. Anyway, the Leica is 6k, so that’s a no-go, and the X100VI doesn’t do enough for me to pull the trigger. Really, I just want a small camera with a bad-ass lens (autofocus) and a square hood that I can take everywhere. The Q3 looks to be that, but can’t justify the cost.

I’d love for Nikon to make a retro camera like the ZF, but without all of the dials, a couple more custom buttons, and a tad lighter. Would buy.
