THINGS Friday, slow day at work, and playing around with Claude Code, and this Frontmatter Extension in VSCode for these posts. I used Claude to help add the photo posts page up top and clean up some of the UI. It’s just so good at it and so much faster than hunting down css parameters. I love that Claude Code can just go ahead and make the changes we’re talking about:

BUCKEYES WIN It started out a little shaky, but once the Bucks got rolling, they suffocated the Wolverines, 27-9. The Buckeyes defense and the offensive line controlled this game, we owned the time of possession 40 to 20 minutes, and they had no answers, they gained 13 yards in their last 17 plays. It was cold, snow flurries, and a beautiful scene. You could tell these teams really do hate each other, a ton of pushing and shoving, multiple unsportsmanlike penalties, and some dummy in maize and blue headbutted a referee!

BUCKEYES Beat up Minnesota 42-3, beat up Illinois 34-16, and beat up Wisconsin 34-0. The defense is legitimate, and needs to be I think. Our offense has shown flashes, but I’m not in love with the running game. I think Julian is better than I expected and looks to be getting better, but I’m expecting a couple of dogfights down the road and the offense is going to need to win a game.

FUJI Well, I picked up a used Fuji X100VI on a whim (and sold the X100F!), and I’ve spent most of my time with it admiring its minimalist beauty. And playing with various recipes. I will say the menu system is… unintuitive, but once you get it and you’ve set and reset every single setting for the 40th time, you get to know it a bit. That’s where I’m at. I’ve taken very few actual photos with it, every snap has been an experiment of some kind to see how it looks, or how it compares to another similar but different recipe.

MORNING I guess we’ll start today how we finished yesterday, with a photo of the Pot and the Pig, reverse focus.
Woke up a bit late, Olive has been watching Youtube Kids for a couple of hours, I made us some eggs and took a couple of photos in the back yard. ( REALLY need to venture out somewhere).

INSPIRATIONS 9:22pm, and I just watched a video of photographer Andrew Moore on Youtube. I’m not familiar with him, but I’m sure he’s famous to people who know anything about famous photographers, I am not one of them. Why am I not? Not sure, but anyway, I really like his use of color, I guess it’s sort of his calling card? As he talks about his process, he says:
“Do something everyday for your art, whether it was make a picture, make a print, go see a movie, get a book I hadn’t seen before, have a conversation with somebody I hadn’t met… It’s a discipline, it’s a practice”

PHOTOS Another image of the Disco Ball, I would do a book of images of this thing if I thought anyone would look at it. They wouldn’t, but might be fun to compile one day.
Maybe I should start a 365 Photo Project, I mean, I’m on Day 3, practically done!
And speaking of objects I take too many pictures of…
Is this me, is this what I am? A person that just takes pictures of singular objects?

PHOTO(s) OF THE DAY Avoiding work at the moment, so I’m going through some recent shots. This is pic 1 million of the disco ball hanging on the back porch.
This was taken with the Voigtlander 40mm f2.0, and I think I had just set one of the custom buttons on the ZF to “Highlight Weighted Metering”, which priorizes the highlights when metering in an effort to not blow them out.

HAPPENINGS Just finished my 56th trip around the Sun, WHAT?! HOW? The math doesn’t make sense, but that’s what the driver’s license says. Somehow I’m a middle-aged adult with a wife, kid, pets, and responsibilites galore. In my brain I still feel like a 20 year old immature child.
Anyway, I had a lovely, and peaceful Birthday. Meam and Krug came by early to pick Olive up, and Walker and I sat in bed and watched some Love Is Blind trashy TV and it was glorious.

HAPPENINGS Well, I’ve spent the last few hours dealing with the disappearance of my 12TB Sandisk “Professional” G-Drive. Not stolen, just missing from Windows. Power was intermittent, spin-up was intermittent, my frustration was constant. The drive itself was encased in a titanium vault apparently to protect it from nuclear fallout, whose impenetrability I discovered as I attempted to dismantle it. After removing 4 rubber feet, 12 screws, digging a screwdriver under four separate plates, I finally got to the drive itself.

FRIDAY I dropped Ruby & Zeppy off at Dogtopia for the weekend, picked Olive up from school early, packed up the car and headed for Waco, Texas for the weekend. We rented a cabin, the White Rock at Live Oak Lake for Friday and Saturday nights.
But first, snacks. Walker and Olive opted for the go-to sour gummy something-or-others, and I went with dark chocolate espresso waffle cones, and a 2nd bag of berry licorice because I’m disgusting.

HAPPENINGS Well it’s been a couple of weeks.
BUCKEYES: it’s GAMEDAY Looking good so far, this team is super fun to watch, but a big test today with IOWA coming to the Shoe. The Bucks are 18.5 pt favorites, which seems like … a lot. I do like our chances to win, but this may be closer than is comfortable for me.
Where are we at on the year:
DateOpponentHome/AwayShirtUsThemResultRecord08/31/24Akron ZipsShoeBuckeye Donuts (1-0)526WIN1-009/07/24W.

TL;DR Some words and photos from our trip to Colorado in August 2024…
2024-08-06 / Day One: Denver, Colorado Walker, Olive, and I hopped on a plane and flew to Denver, CO on August 6th. We picked up the rental car, a Cadillac something or other, and we headed into Denver to drop off our bags at the Flora House. This place is highly recommended, just an awesome old house.
